This Pulitzer Prize winning author captured so much pain, beauty, love and despair. This is a heavy emotional book that will stay with me for a long time. An amazing piece of historical fiction.
I just finished reading Freeman. Very timely to be reading this with all that is happening in Charleston. I can't even imagine what those slaves endured. It is very hard to imagine the hatred and that it still exists today. Have you seen 12 years a slave? We just watched it and I thought it was very good also. It sometimes moves a bit slow but a heartbreaking story also.
