One In A Million Boy by Monica Wood

My Rating: 4.8

This is the story of 104 year old Ona and an 11 year old saucer-eyed boy who has been sent to help her every Saturday morning. After he does the various chores he comes inside for cake....and stories.  Soon Ona is sharing more of her life than she knew she remembered.

Ona's stories transported me back in time to her memories. This is so well written. I absolutely loved this story.  So many layers to all the characters and so much heart. Don't read too much about it but, definitely read it. So beautiful.

I have read two books by Wood previously: My Only Story and Any Bitter Thing both of which I enjoyed. I will have to read more by her as she is a fabulous author.

  2. I am reading this book on your recommendation Elle and really enjoying it!
I need to pick a book for my Book Club and this might be it. While I was considering options, I run into Behold the Dreamers and noticed, in Goodreads, that you classified it as "not finished- abandoned". Were you not enjoying it? It seems to have good reviews. Just wondering about your opinion before trying it. Thanks!

    1. So glad you are loving One In A Million Boy as well Claudia. I was going to pick it for my bookclub and gave the club the choice of this one or All The Ugly and Wonderful Things. After a brief description of both, they picked All The Ugly and Wonderful Things - which will make a VERY interesting discussion.

If I don't write a review of why I abandoned it, it means that I realize it was probably me and the mindset I was in at the time (too busy with work or just wasn't feeling that type of book at the time) and, If I had friends telling me it wa an amazing book, I would be willing to revisit it again. Let me know if you think I should revisit it :-)
