Heartsick by Chelsea Cain

My rating: 4.8

When this book opened, I didn't think I was going to enjoy it.  I thought this was going to be a formula serial murder book. I am so happy to say that I was wrong. This novel is extremely well written with characters that have depth and a plot that has twists to mention it is set in fabulous Portland Oregon. 

Two years ago, Gretchen Lowell kidnapped Detective Archie Sheridan and tortured him for ten days, but instead of killing him, she mysteriously decided to let him go. She turned herself in, and now Gretchen has been locked away for the rest of her life.  This book opens on the scene of 


I have heard this described as the next "Silence of the Lambs" and I can understand the comparison. It kept me glued to every word till the end...and then I immediately checked out the second book in the series to devour.

  1. I really enjoyed this book and the next couple in the series. Agree with you, I really enjoyed Chelsea Cain's writing and character development. So creepy the relationship between Gretchen and Archie.

    1. Ok, I just finished Sweetheart (the 2nd book) and will hopefully post about that this weekend. Now I get what you mean about their creepy relationship - ick!!!
