The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult

My rating: 4.9

I don't read a lot of Jodi Picoult but, when I saw the rave reviews, I put this in my queue and I am so glad that I did. A woman who works at a bakery befriends a 94 year old German man who is very beloved in the community.  One day, he asker to kill him.  She is shocked and refuses.  He confesses his darkest secret—he deserves to die, because he was a Nazi SS guard. Complicating the matter, Sage's grandmother is a Holocaust survivor.

This is not just another book about the Holocaust but, caused me to see so many things from different angles. An excellent read.

  1. Thanks for this review, I never read Jodi Piccoult but your review has piqued my interest. Added to my TBR. Did you get your July/Aug Bookmarks? Mine came Monday and below are at the top of the list, so far.

Voices in the Night -- don't usually read short stories but this looks great
    The Illuminations
    Our Souls at Night
The Grace of Kings - not generally my cup of tea, but going to give a try because of the rave review

    1. No! I don't have my bookmarks yet :-( TFS your list as that will tide me over :-) I never normally read Jodi Picoult. This book started off a bit fluffy but once I got in to it, I completely lost myself in it. I am going to feature this and The Nightingale in my favorites this month. Both happen to be WWII books and both are fabulous but each has a completely different perspective on the war. Let me know what you think of it. Off to check out your list of books :-)

  2. Still making my way through the magazine, I have a routine, I go through quickly once and pick out the ones that catch my eye then I will read cover to cover and add others that I did not catch the first time through. Message me on Goodreads or email me at jeana (at) unitsix (dot) com with the books you end up reading from the issue.

    1. I have a similar routine as well and usually save my thorough scouring for when I am on a plane :-) I can't wait for my magazine to arrive!

  3. I read this last year and I loved it. In my opinion it is by far the best thing Piccoult has written. I just started the Nightingale.
