When Ghosts Come Home by Wiley Cash

 My Rating: 4.6

When a low flying plane awakens Sheriff Winston Barnes in the middle of the night, he knows something isn't right. He goes to the nearby airfield on the coast of North Carolina where the crashed plane has the body of a local man lying beside it. Everyone is a suspect, including the dead man.

Cash captures the Southern charm and tension of a small town along with the flaws of all the characters. This has the feel of classic murder/mystery genre. I really liked how Cash did the ending through the flash forward.

Things Our Fathers Saw by Matthew A. Rozell

 My Rating: 4.0

Various stories from WWII soliders. Some of the stories brought tears to my eyes. Their sacrifices make me so grateful. To spend years in as in POW camp with their inhumane treatment and to not give up hope - there are no words.

I docked a bit on the rating due to the audio version. It was very confusing to have the same narrator tell different men's stories. We both lost track at times of which story he was referring to. This might be better in print format. Other than that, it was very well done.

The Paris Library by Janet Skeslien Charles

 My Rating: 4.7

1939 Young Odile works at the American Library in Paris. Together with her fellow librarians, Odile joins the Resistance and fights back in the way she knows, by sharing the books.

1983 Young Lily is a lonely teenager in a small town in Montana. When her life intertwines with her elderly mysterious neighbor Odile, Lily's life has purpose and new responsibility with a friend.

This quiet book was full of so much - a beautiful ode to Paris, the power of books, an inter-generational friendship and more.

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn

My Rating: 4.9

1940's England and three different women feel compelled to help England fight the war against the Nazis.  Debutante Osla who is dating Prince Philip of Greece, self-made Mab who is determined to pull herself out of East End London poverty and Beth who is painfully shy but has a brain meant to work on puzzles. They all end up at Bletchley park where the best minds are gathered to try to decode the enemy's secrets.

1947 these three once inseparable friends are now enemies. Prince Philip is going to wed Princess Elizabeth, the girls have gone their separate ways with children, a fiancée and one is in an asylum. They are forced to reunite to figure out who was the traitor in their midst.

Quinn brings everything to life - the code breaking techniques, the war, Prince Philip and most of all the three different girls. This was excellent. Quinn never disappoints and I will be reading more of hers.

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

My Rating: 4.7

Avery is a therapist who has lost her license - which allows her to use unconventional means. Marissa and Matthew Bishop have their first session with Avery - and Marissa reveals the real reason she has brought her husband to counseling when she reveals that she had an affair.

What unfolds is a lot of twists and turns. It is a fun thrilling ride as each page has more suspense as the story unfolds. A fun popcorn beach read type of thriller that I couldn't wait to get back to.
