Book Limbo

I call ‘book limbo’ anytime I finish a book (usually a really good book) and I just can’t find another book that grabs me.  I read a couple of chapters of one before starting another book and it can take 3 or 4 books before something grabs me.  I realized that I waste a lot of time in book limbo.

Do you suffer from book limbo?  Do you have any suggestions for me of how to minimize the time I spend in book limbo?

  1. I'm the same way! I don't really have any tips...I just look around on the internet/blogs for ideas. But, I just read an article on the internet about this new (?) website called Bookbub (bookbub.com). The website says it alerts you to free/discounted ebooks that match your interests. I have no idea how this works or if it is even something worth doing, I just thought I'd pass it along to you :)

    1. I will check out bookbub - thanks Amy. I need any/all suggestions as I really do waste a lot of time in book limbo. Let me know if you discover a cure :-)

  2. I have a running group text with four other friends who love great novels. They always have good suggestions, when I run through my own list. Just finished reading the group recommended "The Glass Castle", by Jeannette Walls. Absolutely loved it and I think you might, too!

    1. Thanks Nancy. I need a group text like you are talking about. I do have a long 'queue' but, it is random as to whether I will like any of them. I have read both of Jeanette Walls books :-) Thanks! I hope that you have a fantastic week.

  3. Hi Elle! I know just what you mean. What I've been doing lately is reading lighter books - probably books I would not normally read - as a kind of "palette cleanse" from the deeper literary fiction I normally enjoy. Most recently I made my way through Sarah Addison Allen's books - think magical realism with a touch of southern charm. The plots are fairly predictable and the writing a bit formulaic - but not so much that I can't enjoy them. Another thing I've done is re-read a classic such as Huck Finn, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc; or, read something non-fiction. Hope this helps!

    1. I like the idea of a palette cleanser. Now that you mention it, I have been doing this unconsciously with my Catherine Ryan Hyde addiction - perfect remedy between books. I also enjoyed Sarah Addison Allen's books. I definitely need to discover the classics. Thanks! This was a great help :-)
